Mike Jurkowski was re-elected chairman of the Stoneybrooke Citizen’s
Association for the 2005-6 business year at SCA’s June 15
meeting in the Stone Mansion.
Also re-elected were Scott McMahon, vice-chairman, and Bernie Tabarini,
treasurer. New SCA officers elected are John Finamore, secretary,
and Herry Cordoba, parliamentarian.
Preceding the election, Don Faxon, SCA’s neighborhood watch
coordinator, discussed progress to date in establishing the community’s
neighborhood watch program. He said that while local police officials
are assisting Stoneybrooke in setting up its watch program the law
officers stress that our watch program can be “anything that
we want it to be” and need not follow a pattern of other communities’
programs. Mr. Faxon said also:
- At least initially there will be no block captains and no foot
or car patrols.
- Residents are asked to familiarize themselves with their neighbors;
be alert for outsiders acting suspiciously.
- Stoneybrookers do not have the authority to arrest a person
suspected of committing a crime; the suspect should be reported
immediately by the observer to the police.
- Mr. Faxon welcomes the participation in the neighborhood watch
program of any and all residents. He can be contacted at his home
phone, 703-660-6883.
Following the business session, the meeting adjourned to an adjacent
room in the Stone Mansion where representatives of four proposed
area developments were available to discuss architectural plans
for their projects.
The proposed projects are:
- Beacon Mall--constructing additional businesses;
- Groveton Heights—erecting town houses on vacant land;
- King’s Crossing—building mixed residential units;
- Piney Run—converting golf driving range on Telegraph
Road into multiple-unit senior citizen living quarters.
The next SCA business meeting is scheduled September 15, beginning
at 7:30 p.m. in the Stone Mansion.
