Stoneybrooke Issue
Stoneybrooke Citizens Association (SCA) Chairman, Mike Jurkowski,
began the meeting by discussing his desire to repair the Stoneybrooke
entrance signs. Possibly repairs include minor stone repairs and
electrical work on the lamps above the signs. Mike will plan a board
meeting in the near future to discuss this issue.
Identify Theft Prevention Presentation
Fairfax County Police Office, Greg Kottermann, and Police Volunteer,
Ira Schoen, gave a presentation on preventing identify theft. After
the meeting, Mike sent an email to Stoneybrook residence including
handouts from the presentation. Some of the main topics discussed
in the presentation included the following:
- Prevention is the key
- Protect all key assets (SSN, credit cards, etc…)
- Personal security is a must (always lock your car doors)
- Protect your email account
- Have access to key credit card phone numbers in case they are
lost/stolen
- Always shred financial trash (and anything with your name or
address)
- Obtain a copy of your credit report
- Every year, the three credit bureaus will give you one
FREE copy of your credit report. This is a result of the Fair
& Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) passed by congress.
- To obtain your free credit report, go to www.annualcreditreport.com
or call 1-877-322-8228.
- If you are a victim of identify theft, do the following:
- Immediately contact financial and credit institutions
- Contact local police and place a report
- Place a “fraud report” with the major credit
bureaus
- Review your credit report
- Inventory all missing items
