The Stoneybrooke 2016 Fall Community Yard Sale is Saturday October 1, 2016

scayardsale2016fAs a new homeowner moving into the Stoneybrooke neighborhood in early 2009, we were pleasantly surprised at the organization and participation rate of the bi-annual Stoneybrooke Community Yard Sale.  Seven years later, I’m still thankful for the leaders and volunteers who continue to coordinate this event and all the residents who participate to make this day a great success.  It’s wonderful to walk around the neighborhood on a crisp fall or spring morning and see all the items finding second homes to the numerous visitors driving around looking for deals.

The next Stoneybrooke Community Yard Sale is coming up soon (Saturday, October 1, 2016). If you have questions or want to participate by setting up a table, please e-mail yardsale@stoneybrooke.org and someone will respond to you quickly.

The Stoneybrooke Community Association (SCA) will be advertising for this event through signs posted around the area as well as posting ads online to various online communities.

Please reach out if you have any ideas for future iterations of this event.

Neighborhood Watch: Reporting Car Break-Ins

As many of you know, thanks to social media, ours and surrounding neighborhoods are experiencing an increase in nighttime car break-ins.  Fortunately, rather than breaking windows, the perpetrators are most often checking for unlocked car doors and rummaging through belongings to find something of value to steal — phone chargers or devices, keys, medications, loose change, etc.  Your first line of defense is to ensure your doors are locked and that you leave nothing of value in your vehicle overnight.  Additionally, leaving exterior lights on throughout the night could deter criminal activity in your driveway.

If you do find that your car has been entered and rummaged through, even if nothing is stolen, it is very important to file a report with Fairfax County Police Department.  This can be done quickly and easily online using the FCPD Citizen Reporting System.  As the FCPD receives more and more reports on this activity, they are more likely to increase patrols through our neighborhood, thus further deterring criminal acts.

Please note, if you have an emergency or a crime is in progress, dial 911.

The Citizen Reporting System can be used to file a report for the following types of crimes:

  • Bicycle Theft
  • Civil Dispute
  • Destruction of Private Property/Vandalism
  • Larceny/Theft from Motor Vehicle or Parts
  • Larceny/Theft Under $5,000
  • Lost Property
  • Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Vehicle
  • Solicitor Violations
  • Telephone Harassment/Threats
  • Trespassing
  • Unoccupied Hit and Run Accidents

CANCELED: September 24th Block Party

Please be advised that the September 24th block party advertised in the September Sentinel that was mailed to all Stoneybrooke residents has been canceled. The SCA board was presented with concerns over the scheduled location, and unfortunately, we have been unable to find a new location to hold the party on short notice. The online version of the September Sentinel has been updated to remove the block party advertisement.

The Event Planning Committee is still coordinating other community events for the remainder of the year, including the bi-annual yard sale in October, the Halloween Children’s Parade (that has been held in previous years), and a potential Christmas holiday event. Please feel free to contact the board at any time if you have suggestions for community events or concerns about any planned event. We look forward to hearing from you!
