From time to time, you may see an e-mail or post asking for any volunteers to help with some neighborhood clean up and/or maintenance. While every square inch of property within Stoneybrooke is either owned privately or by the local government, the Stoneybrooke Citizen’s Association (SCA) does have a vested interest in ensuring our surrounding community areas are safe and well maintained. This includes ensuring the barrier at the end of Cold Spring Lane.

This barrier is beneficial to have in place as it restricts traffic from using the Stoneybrooke community as a quick cut-through to Harrison/Lockheed and greatly improves our community safety and overall neighborhood quality of life. Ensuring that this barrier remains visually pleasing and not overgrown is a step to ensuring it stays in place.

Many years ago, the SCA conducted regular maintenance of the barrier with volunteers; however, due to lack of interest and knowledge, this was not sustainable and the SCA approved the used of treasury funds to pay for regular clean-up. The vibrant energy and community spirit alive in Stoneybrooke today means this can again be a neighborhood event as well as allow SCA funds to go towards other initiatives and efforts.

If you’re not already an SCA Member for 2024 or would like to ensure you are a member for 2025, please consider Joining the SCA for only $20 annually. We do welcome and accept membership dues from our neighbors in Woodstone and Vantage communities who enjoy receiving our Sentinel newsletter and participating in SCA led or sponsored events such as the summer Food Truck series, advertising for the biannual Yard Sales, Easter Egging, and the many other Community Events.

Please contact the SCA Board (scaboard@stoneybrooke.org) if you’re interested in learning more about volunteering!

Did you know that the Fairfax County has an Invasive Management Are program? This is a community-based project designed to reduce invasive plants on our parklands. This program gives volunteers an opportunity to connect with like-minded people while taking care of natural resources. The SCA Board will look to invite IMA leaders to a future SCA Meeting to provide information and answer questions.
